When I first came across Saker harnesses, I thought that they looked like a nice product but were overkill for anything that a city dog mama would need. Then, I met my recent foster fail puppy. Monkey is a gem who had been overlooked at a high kill shelter for a dangerously long time after having been found abandoned in an orchard. Clearly, he is a lifelong Houdini fan! His favorite "trick" is to decide that he is bored with an activity or conversation, turn towards me, sit super pretty at the end of his leash just long enough to look like he is being angelically well-behaved only to make a lightening quick shift into slamming himself backwards out of ANY OTHER HARNESS!! My octopus tentacle arms are also lightening quick so he has yet to find himself living lost in a second orchard but being so constantly vigilant was becoming exhausting. This same slipparoo behavior was occasionally happening in the backseat of the car leaving me with a slippery eel in my driver's seat. I attempted to use another brand's crash-test rated seatbelt for car-rides but it was just stiff and uncomfortable and had to fit over his other harnesses. This lead me back to the Säker brandi and to the Canyon Light harnesses. Only the Pro harnesses have been crash rated. I do however think that the Canyon Light is sufficient security for our current driving needs. With a rapidly growing puppy, I wanted to test the style and sizing out without biting the bullet for the much higher priced Pro.
The pros at Säker were incredibly helpful with making a sizing selection. I purchased one in the stunning green colorway and then chose this camel colorway with the thought that it would be a nice sophisticated polished look if a bit more conservative than our typical vibe. I added a black collar handle to the camel harness and wish that I had purchased a few more while they were still available as the additional grip has been helpful with keeping my rambunctiously friendly sweetheart under control during greetings. Monkey played so hard at the P.A.R.K. the first time that he wore the camel-colored harness that it was immediately and thoroughly filthy. It still looked great but does have a bit more of a military vibe once the color has been muted by mud and grime.
This camel harness has become our go-to play harness. In addition to keeping Monkey safe from his own naughty devices and secured in his carseat, I do believe that this harness kept Monkey safe from an attack by a cranky dog who was not thrilled with his puppy play antics. When the grouch went for Monkey's belly and the attack looked like it was going to have some scary consequences, the chest plate acted like a shield and he came out of it without a scratch!
I decided to give the harness a wash the other night using some natural dish soap and a new sponge with a light scouring side. It cleaned up beautifully! The camel harness coordinates easily with several of our collars and we have made some fun color combinations with the green. As an added bonus, we have received so many complements on how great Monkey looks in these beautifully-made harnesses! I was planning to purchase the Canyon Pro in black but just discovered that they have sold out! I am instead ordering two more colors in the Light so that we have more choices for playtime and for coordinating with the remainder of our collars in a variety for my totally non-spoiled bebe.

After going through 6 different harnesses for my Australian Shepherd, I found this one which has excellent materials and she can’t escape from. Highly recommend!

I got a size medium for my dog Oakley. It seems a little to big for him he is about 60 pounds. So I’ll have to tighten it up a bit more. So far so good took me a little longer to figure out and tighten.

fits my dog great and there’s no worry about rubbing skin raw or joint restraint. Perfectly matches the rest of his gear and no worry about him slipping out.
